MINNESOTA — Mikayla Raines, founder and director of the nationally recognized nonprofit SaveAFox Rescue, has passed away at the age of 31. Based in Minnesota, Raines was widely respected for her groundbreaking work in wildlife rescue, particularly her dedication to saving captive-bred foxes from fur farms, neglect, and improper ownership.
Since establishing SaveAFox in 2017, Raines built the organization into one of the leading fox rescues in the United States, providing sanctuary, medical care, and lifelong homes for more than 150 foxes. Her passion for animal welfare was evident in every aspect of her work—from hands-on care to public education and outreach.
Raines’ commitment to animal advocacy began early. Raised in a family that supported wildlife rehabilitation, she bottle-fed her first fox at 15 and went on to earn certifications in wildlife care and veterinary assistance. She later obtained all necessary federal and state permits, ensuring SaveAFox operated legally and ethically.
Beyond rescue efforts, Raines used digital platforms to educate the public about the realities of the exotic pet trade and fur industry. Her transparency and compassion earned her a loyal following and helped elevate awareness about fox welfare nationwide.
Tributes from fellow rescuers, supporters, and fans have poured in across social media, with many remembering Raines as a compassionate leader, a tireless advocate, and a voice for the voiceless.
Plans for a public memorial and tribute event will be announced by the SaveAFox team. In honor of her legacy, the organization is encouraging donations to continue the mission she began and to support the animals she loved and protected.
Mikayla Raines leaves behind a powerful legacy rooted in compassion, advocacy, and lasting change for animals in need.
